just feels Opera's is not a true VPN as it's not system-wide. It's just that Opera might leak certain things other than http and https connections from Opera itself, but again, not sure of the details. Theres no need to register or hand over any personal. I don't know.īut, whether you call it a secure proxy or a VPN, your stuff is encrypted between Opera and Opera's VPN server like if you were tunneling Opera through a standalone VPN and a VPN server. Opera VPN is an entirely free service which comes built-in to the Opera browser. Others just say it's not a true VPN because it only works for the browser and not for the whole system where it would tunnel Flash connections loaded in the browser too. Overall, these results aren’t that excellent for a proxy, since I’ve seen nearly zero percent download speed reduction when connecting to the other side of the world with other providers. However, the upload speeds were sometimes struggling. We wanted to start with the positive things about this VPN before diving into its many flaws. ![]() It has a large number of servers, although it offers only 5 different locations, clearly including the United States. Besides, you don’t need to download and install anything special to be used in pc. The Windows Media Player plug-in did not though. Opera VPN offered really fast download speeds comparable to those of the best fast VPNs. Because Opera VPN is a browser with integrated VPN, its speed is impressive even though it offers IP anonymity at no cost. ![]() Then again, NPAPI fetching for Flash in old Presto-based Opera still used Opera's downloading functions. It is like the Opera browser, but with better features. So, the Opera GX browser was not built from the ground up. ![]() However, Opera GX does what Opera offers and goes further by giving you the ability to decide which resources it has access to at all times. Or, the Flash thing could just be because it's its own process that makes its own connections and just notifies Opera through the PPAPI. Opera is the best browser on Chromium with integrated media and free VPN support. Opera VPNs 1 drawback, however, is the fact that its not a true VPN. I think Opera uses something different, which might be the reason why Flash connections for example leak through. Opera VPN has decent speeds (at least for a free VPN) and had no DNS leaks in our testing (good). Burnout426 Volunteer last edited by burnout426ĭon't know for sure, but I think Opera's VPN isn't considered a real VPN as it doesn't use a normal VPN tunneling protocol between Opera and Opera's VPN server like a normal VPN Client / VPN server would.
